Chapter 25
At last, I have turned 16 years old. And turning 16 means that enrollment at Heinrich Noble Academy has been decided.
Well, it’s not like I have any interest in school or anything… I can keep earning money easily as-is. But nobles invariably attend this school. Even the house of a slave merchant is no exception. While we may be slave merchants, our house does technically have noble status after all.
My father insisted I absolutely had to go, saying that if I attend the academy I can make various connections with other nobles. I don’t want to encounter the protagonist, but things should be fine if I just act normal.
I need to be sure not to get involved with Alto Franciphone, the protagonist of this Egocentric Fantasy story. To that end, I want to live my life as inconspicuously as possible.
Now that I’m attending the academy, I was looking forward to having some flings with the girl students, but other than that I’ll try not to stand out and pretend to be a plain student.
However, I, Eld Schmerzen, have quite a bit of talent with the sword and magic. That’s clear from this abnormally powerful healing magic aptitude I possess.
After all, Eld is known as one of the considerably strong bosses within this Egotistical Fantasy world.
As the boss right before the last boss, Eld stands in the way of the protagonist Alto.
I wonder if someone like me can really spend academy life without standing out…
「I should try to keep this healing magic ability hidden as much as I can…」
But there’s the issue of the sword and magic classes. Heinrich Noble Academy has classes in swords and magic. Though it’s the sort of thing you’d normally just have slaves do instead. So it’s just a nobleman’s hobby, you could say.
I don’t know what will happen if I start getting serious… I should try to conceal my strength.
However, my plan was completely shattered right from the entrance ceremony—
◆
I decided to bring my attendants Arde and Domingo along as guards to the academy. All the nobles attending the academy bring their slaves along like that.
I brought Arde to take care of my personal needs, and Domingo as a guard in case anything happens.
All the nobles walk around accompanied by at least two slaves like that.
Today was Heinrich Noble Academy’s entrance ceremony.
The entrance ceremony proceeded smoothly.
The problem occurred during a certain event within the entrance ceremony.
「Now then, we will conduct a level assessment for the new students. When your name is called, please come forward.」
The MC officiating says that.
And that reminds me about something.
In the world of Egotistical Fantasy, we had things called Levels…
But in the 16 years I’ve lived so far, I never paid levels any attention.
It would be different if I was an adventurer or something, but I was just running a slave merchant business at home…
So I never had a chance to measure it.
I wonder what my level actually is…
「Well, I’ve only ever used healing magic at home, so it’s probably not anything special…」
Levels don’t go up much unless you defeat monsters and stuff right?
Although levels did go up from things other than combat in Egotistical Fantasy, it still wasn’t as much as the experience points you get from combat.
I was being optimistic about it.
While I was thinking that, student names kept getting called out.
And then that name was called.
「Next! Alto Franciphone!」
Oh, so that’s Alto… I need to be sure not to have anything to do with him…
I confirm his appearance from a distance.
Alto has the setting of being a commoner. He ended up attending this Heinrich Noble Academy by a strange twist of fate.
So Alto’s level is of course—
「Alto Franciphone. Level 1!」
Just like in the game, it starts from level 1.
Alto’s level at the beginning of the main story is 1. Since the main story begins with this entrance ceremony.
But if things go the same as in the game, he’ll rapidly level up and come to defeat me, the boss. I need to avoid that at all costs…
After a while, my name was called.
「Next! Eld Schmerzen!」
「Y-Yes!」
I step forward and touch the crystal orb used to measure levels.
And then—
A shocking result is displayed there.
「E-Eld Schmerzen… His level is… 9999…」
「Huh…?」
I doubt my own ears. I don’t understand what’s going on…
Just what is the meaning of this…?
「Um… Could it be a machine malfunction…? This seems weird… There’s no way anyone could reach level 9999… Eld, do you have any idea? For example, have you repeatedly used high level healing magic to the point of death since early childhood…?」
The lady measuring my level asks me that.
Oh crap… I do have an idea about it.
Could it really turn out like this just from healing magic…????
But I guess it’s not entirely impossible…
If the talented Eld worked his butt off seriously with healing magic, this could be the result…
Damn it… And here I didn’t want to stand out, yet I’ve instantly become the center of attention like this…
The eyes of every student in the school are focused on me. And that obviously includes Alto over there too. Yep, my face has been burned into his memory now…
Oh right. Come to think of it, in the Egotistical Fantasy world, your level went up the more you used magic too.
Even without combat, if I honed my healing magic to that extent, this is what happens…?
Damn, my memories of my past life have really faded quite a bit.
It’s been over 10 years since I reincarnated as Eld at the age of 6. I’ve practically forgotten the game I was playing 10 years ago.
What’s going to happen to me now…???
I scream internally.
「Goodbye… my peaceful academy life…」
