Chapter 156
○○○
「Listen up, all of you!」
Purume’s voice booms out from behind, her demeanor exuding authority and grandeur.
「Behold! This rain of light that fills the sky! And the trampled Liquid Dragon!」
Purume’s followers—a diverse group varying in age, gender, and profession—seem to have a switch flipped inside them at her words.
「And they haven’t even gone all out yet!」
I can sense a definite rise in their voltage.
「The three mighty warriors who have joined us in this battle are right here! First, Orphelia Verite from Seventh Blue! Second, Angelica Honest the Wise! And third, the greatest and strongest wielder of Light Magic, the adventurer Low!」
The situation is completely absurd.
In front of us, the rain of light is still pouring down, tearing the enemy apart, while behind us, we’re being introduced to a crowd.
Wait, this is bad! I’m going to become famous!
I’ll end up surrounded by fans saying things like 「Can I have your autograph?」, 「Please shake my hand!」, and 「I’ve fallen for you!」, forcing me to humbly respond, 「No, no, I’m not that great of an adventurer… tee-hee!」
「But prepare to be amazed! I can tell! You are all warriors equal to, if not surpassing them! To fully unleash your power! Believe in me! Follow me!」
Her speech is met with a roar of 「Uoooooooh!!」 Their excitement has reached its peak.
「That was a good speech. Perfect timing too.」
As the torrent of light subsides, our cleared view reveals the Liquid Dragon, not unscathed but almost back to its initial state. So it has resistance to Light Magic.
The monster lets out a fierce roar. It’s clearly filled with hostility and fury.
The Liquid Dragon plunges its hand into the ground as if scooping up water, then hurls a massive amount of soil towards us with all its might. Simultaneously, it slams its tail on the ground, scattering debris like a shotgun blast.
The dragon’s anger shows no signs of subsiding. It seems intent on repeating this not just once, but two or three times, until we’re exhausted and wiped out—but that doesn’t happen. By the time it initiates its attack, Angelica has already prepared:
「Fire Rain.」
It’s the fire magic version of the Rain I used.
It’s Angelica’s unique magic, and also a nostalgic spell we developed together.
The dragon’s earth magic, which should have unleashed massive destruction, is no match for the countless needles of flame released by Angelica, who is said to possess infinite magical power. In fact, the tables turn almost instantly. One or two flame needles slip through the debris and hit their mark—and in the blink of an eye, three, four, five, six more strike. From there, they continue to barrage the Liquid Dragon, dealing constant damage.
It’s not a dream. Only by facing it myself do I finally understand.
There’s no ignition at the point of impact, but I can sense that it’s definitely causing damage, however slight.
「Is this good?」
Angelica asks me. She’s moving exactly as I had instructed earlier. The experiment I mentioned was to attack with different elemental attributes in order to expose the Liquid Dragon’s weaknesses.
「Yeah, it’s perfect.」
Angelica responds with just 「I see…」 hiding her expression under her hat.
So far, we’ve learned a few things.
Wind magic likely won’t work on the Liquid Dragon, which is impervious to cutting.
Similarly, water magic is expected to have little effect on this liquid life form.
Light magic is almost ineffective. Fire magic has some effect, and what remains is—
「Angelica, can I count on you?」
She nods firmly, and I briefly explain the strategy.
As the Fire Rain subsides, the dragon thrashes its three heads about, expressing its anger.
I notice the three dragon jaws beginning to glow.
It’s the telltale sign of the dragon’s go-to move: the destructive light beam.
「Purume, Orphelia.」
I call out to them, and they respond.
「Just call me Orphe.」
「Same here. Call me Puru.」
Accepting their suggestions, I continue,
「I’m going to charge in alone now. I’ve defeated a boss with a liquid body before. I don’t know if this one’s the same, but it’s worth a try. While I do that, I need you two to cover me.」
With that, I dash towards the Liquid Dragon.
「Hellgate」
Puru summons a majestic, fiery gate behind us.
「Flowing: Yin.」
Orphe mutters something, and the twin swords in her hands turn a dark, dull color. Just then—as the three light beams from the Liquid Dragon converge into one and lash out at them—I arrive at the feet of this idiot that keeps spewing vomit.
「Stinger!」
I unleash one of my trump cards, a killing blow infused with magic power I’ve been cultivating within my body.
