Chapter 247

○○○

Six months have passed since Ryūgūin’s rampage in the royal capital.

While I’ve mostly spent these past six months taking it easy, there have still been quite a few things that I couldn’t ignore.

Six months is a peculiar length of time – not quite distant enough to be considered the distant past, but too recent to really lose yourself in memories.

But you know what?
Sometimes it’s good to pause and slowly reflect on the days that have rushed by so quickly.
After all, that day truly was a turning point for us.

We finally managed to resolve the Ryūgūin situation that day. Of course, many things were irreversibly changed by his actions, and it seemed like reaching a true resolution would take considerable time.
But that’s exactly the kind of thing that the people of this world need to handle themselves. All I can really do is help the people around me.

As Anon requested, we spent three days in the royal capital.
On the third day, as planned, we followed his instructions and went to the theater, where we watched a stage play presented by Anon.

Those who watched the play with me mostly had positive things to say about it, which made me feel somewhat awkward, as if I was being praised myself.
By the way, it seems they’ve already decided to produce second and third installments of the play where I’m the main character.

I noticed that Angie and Eris were delighted to agree when Anon asked them to share stories for the script, but I deliberately looked away and pretended not to see or hear anything. If I hadn’t, I would have died from embarrassment.

This is a bit of a side note, but I heard an interesting story about the play.
The actor who played 「Holy Knight Yamada」 in the previous play about Ryūgūin had a rough time because he played such a despicable character. People associated him with the role, hurling insults at him and questioning his character. When I heard this story, I felt like a victim myself. Can I cry now?

However, to counter these negative impressions, they decided that for this new play, the former 「Holy Knight Yamada」 actor would be cast as the true 「Holy Knight Yamada」 if possible, or at least be given some other positive role. If possible? Well, certainly… the 「Yamada」 I saw in the play at Boldaf was physically a bit… um, ahem *coughs*

Changing topics, we can’t forget about Saga and the others.
While we were watching the play, Saga declared he had no interest in theater and went off to party at a tavern with his deputy, the Holy Knight Adam, and Nelly.
Saga and Adam took Nelly along under the pretense of counseling her about her uncertainty regarding her future now that she was relieved of her duties. They ended up drinking until morning with quite a crowd.

I heard this later from the pale-faced bespectacled deputy Camus. Saga apparently covered everyone’s tab, including not just his companions but anyone who happened to be there, burning through a chunk of his recent reward money. What is he, some kind of Showa-era celebrity?
I’m pretty sure I wasn’t imagining it when I saw Camus’s glasses slipping off. Rest in peace…

But really, Saga’s drinking style is pretty intense.
He would chug what seemed like pure alcohol that burned your throat, all while laughing boisterously.
Poor Saga’s liver… hang in there, buddy. Though as I got lost in these sentimental thoughts, I decided to convince myself it would be fine since this world probably has magic or potions that can directly heal the liver.

Hm? How do I know about Saga’s drinking style?
Because I’ve gone drinking with him. Twice, actually.

The first time was on day zero of the Sealed Domain subjugation festival, and the second time was the day before we watched the play.
Yes, the day before the play, I was essentially kidnapped by these two sturdy men, Saga and Adam, who grabbed me by both sides and dragged me to the tavern. You could definitely call this an abduction or kidnapping.
At that moment, I felt exactly like one of those gray aliens from the Roswell incident.

It was one of the most intense nights of our few days in the royal capital.
Or as they say, 「Drinking with an epic crew LOL.」

Let me tell you about that night.
The story begins when I was brought to a noisy tavern at night and found myself sitting at a table with these two heavy-drinking misters.
