He—Number Domain One—gritted his teeth.
「Damn!」
Facing him, Ragna Gladius, the Knight Commander of the Royal Knight Order, continued to react with overwhelming skill, despite having his vision covered in darkness and despite Number Domain One having completely erased his presence using Mist Eraser.
「This is such a pain. Why does a mere assassin have to deal with this kind of monster…」
He complained as if utterly exhausted. The Knight Commander, who had switched completely to defense after the initial strike, seemed to be getting used to fighting in the darkness, as his sword strikes began to find their mark. Eventually, his defensive tempo showed signs of ease, and,
「HYAAH!!」
Finally, he began to launch attacks first, aiming to take down the perpetrator. Inevitably, many of Number Domain One’s moves also shifted to self-protection. The balance of offense and defense continued to sway.
「Troublesome… really troublesome. Well then, how about this. —Shadow Quantum.」
Following his incantation, more than ten duplicates appeared on the spot. They were exact copies of Number Domain One, not just in appearance but also in presence, magical energy, and everything else. Ragna momentarily paused his offensive due to the number of duplicates.
That was enough for Number Domain One. He had already blended in among the duplicates, making it impossible to distinguish between the real one and the fakes. Then half of the Number Domain Ones leaped at Ragna simultaneously, while the remaining half headed toward the royalty protected by the barrier. Several Knight Order members who had been waiting a little behind, unable to intervene in the duel between the two, stood in Number Domain One’s way. However, their movements were incomparably slower than usual.
The duplicates that leaped at Ragna were all fakes. Moreover, although they had presences and mass similar to the real one, they were merely imitations that would disappear the moment they were touched. It would be sufficient if they could maintain the standoff for a minute or two to buy time. During that time—
「Too slow.」
Slipping past the knights who couldn’t move properly in the darkness, Number Domain One and his duplicates leaped in front of the barrier. One of the duplicates touched the barrier—and was instantly repelled.
「This is troublesome. The barrier is too strong.」
Number Domain One blinked and scratched his head.
「But well, this might work—maybe?」
Having quickly decided on a course of action, he crouched down and placed his hand on the ground.
「Shadow Seize.」
In the darkness, a shadow of his figure, darker than the darkness itself, appeared where he touched the ground. The shadow instantly changed shape and stretched out. The shadow creeping along the ground penetrated through the barrier, and,
「Ohh! We did it!」
The shadow rising from the ground took the form of a scythe, steadily manifesting its presence in both size and mass. But sadly, this was all happening in the dark. No one noticed. That included not only the nobility who stood praying inside, but also the sisters maintaining the barrier and the Knight Order members entrusted with the inside of the barrier.
「With this, the job is done—」
The scythe made of shadow grew to a size exceeding the height of an adult man, and,
「Shadow Death Scythe.」
Obeying his powerful voice, it was swung down to cut Princess Puffy and the sister attending to her side in two—but then,
「What is happening—」
The voice belonged to Princess Puffy. Because, centered on her, an overwhelming light spread out. A warm and divine light illuminated the surroundings.
All those who had thoroughly adjusted to the darkness, including Number Domain One, couldn’t help but close their eyes.
As the light subsided, the darkness no longer existed. So they were able to recognize it.
A semi-transparent girl had manifested there with a definite presence. Both friendly and enemy camps, being too surprised by the sudden event, silently directed their gazes at her. Taking advantage of this, the semi-transparent girl struck some kind of cool(?) pose with movements reminiscent of a special effects superhero.
「Could it be Lady Destiny Lover…?」
The semi-transparent girl glanced at Princess Puffy and nodded once, as if to say 「don’t worry.」 Then, she lightly rotated her neck and hopped gently in place. As the finale to her series of movements, she turned her palm toward Number Domain One and beckoned to him provocatively.
