Chapter 295

○○○

This story takes place a few days after repelling the assassins from the Lionel Empire and a group of renowned assassins.
The location is a cabin nestled deep within Hidden Mountain—our home, mine and Sena’s.

After finishing lunch together, everyone begins their respective tasks. It’s still bright outside with strong sunlight. Outside the cabin, two women are hard at work with mysterious tools, hammering away with clangs and bangs. One is Sensei, with raven-black hair and a purple kimono. The other is Mika, dressed in casual clothes—a shirt and loose pants—quite different from her usual luxurious sister’s outfit.

Mika wipes away sweat with her sleeve and exhales a 「phew,」 but continues working silently following Sensei’s instructions.
Sensei, too, with her mouth in an 「ω」 shape, skillfully cuts and processes wood harvested (?) from some mysterious creature, using tools made of equally mysterious materials, completing the craftsman’s work with expertise that would make a professional envious.

From Sena’s perspective, the two work together in such perfect harmony it would make her jealous, but anyway—

After checking on the two of them, I return to the cabin.
Three people are inside.
Me, Sena beside me, and across from us, the silver-haired girl Anon.

◇◇◇

The story goes back to the night of the attack.
Anon and I, before taking any rest, completely restrained Norald and Wiz, spoke with Duke Masquerade, and arranged to leave the two in the basement of the manor.

That day, given the late hour, we accepted the Duke’s words: 「You two saved my life. Please stay the night.」
The next day, my job was already finished when we prevented the attack, and Anon still had some loose ends to tie up regarding the matter, so we went our separate ways.
By the way, Anon kept glancing at me before parting, but when I told her, 「You have things to do, right? We can meet anytime once you’re done,」 she left with a sad expression.

But anyway, when I returned to the cabin, I thanked Sena for all the help I received through her talismans. Although Sena understood much through the talismans, perhaps due to her own change of heart, she seemed to have several questions about this incident.

With Sena nestled against me as I sat cross-legged, I held her and answered her questions as best I could.

Even so, Sena already understood quite a bit through the talismans. So what Sena wanted to know was what happened after the talismans disappeared. In other words, about Puffy.

「The moment the talisman disappeared, Puffy misunderstood something and screamed.」

When I tell her this, I think I see Sena smile faintly.
Conversely, I also ask about something that’s been bothering me.

「About the talismans, you gave them to someone else besides me and Puffy, right?」

Sena nods.

「I gave one to Princess Rose.」

Princess Rose?
I unintentionally repeat the name.
However, Sena doesn’t elaborate further.

Seeing Sena looking somewhat embarrassed, I understand.
She must have mixed feelings as well.
Change is difficult and sometimes uncomfortable.

Above all, Sena is a young woman too, and some things are better left unsaid. It would be tactless to press for details.

I also feel happy somehow, and a smile naturally forms on my face.

The next day.
A voice comes from beyond the sliding door.

「Sena, son-in-law, are you there?」

It’s a dignified voice I should be familiar with.
Yet I feel a slight unease.
Something is different from usual—?

Nevertheless, it’s the long-awaited return of Sensei.
And behind her stands Mika.
