「Lord Eld, the Church of Eld has now become quite a major religion. You are essentially a living god now. Such an amazing person like Lord Eld would surely also be in favor of world peace, right?」 「W-what are you trying to say…?」
「I’m thinking of abolishing the slave trade!」 「Huhhh!?」
To be honest, I was perplexed. If he abolishes the slave trade, what will happen to me…? If he does that, I won’t be able to make money anymore.
Alto wanting to abolish the slave trade was the same as in the game’s story. Alto has a strong sense of justice and comes from a commoner background. So it makes sense he would have doubts about the slave trade and want to abolish it. In the game world, because of this, Eld opposed him and was condemned as a great villain. The slave trade gets abolished, and Eld is avenged by the slaves he had tormented.
In other words, I can’t go against Alto here. I have to agree to abolish the slave trade.
「Lord Eld will surely agree too, won’t you!?」
Alto says this to me with shining eyes.
「Ah, yes of course…」
To be honest, as a slave merchant, I can’t agree with this in my heart. But if I oppose Alto here, it will be a flag for ruin.
Besides, even if the slave trade is abolished now, I don’t think the slaves will seek revenge on me. I’ve been quite fawning towards the slaves up until now. At the very least, they shouldn’t harbor resentment towards me.
◆
And so, Alto enacted the abolition of the slave trade nationwide. In various places, slave traders cried out. But the slaves who had been oppressed are said to have rejoiced at their liberation. I think that’s simply a good thing.
Now, as for the slaves in my household—
Far from resenting and seeking revenge on me,
「Master Eld, please don’t abandon us!!!!」 「Please let us keep working here!!!」 「Please let us stay here!!!!」
They beg me. Even though they’re free now, they don’t want to leave my side.
「Hey…you guys can go now, you know…?」 「Please don’t say that! We want to remain by Master Eld’s side!」
So given that, I decided to formally hire them as workers. Well, their conditions haven’t changed much from before. I just started calling them workers rather than slaves.
In the game, Eld treated the slaves terribly and was revenged by them, but By properly treating the slaves, I was able to gain their trust like this. Thanks to that, all the former slaves still admire me as workers. You really do reap what you sow with people, after all.
With this, I’ve perfectly avoided the ruin flag. Alto won’t condemn me anymore, and the slaves won’t seek revenge either. From now on, I intend to further expand my business using these workers.
