Chapter 21
Sieg, also known as Isamu, spends three days helping out newbies and level grinding with his former students at the plaza.
His level reaches 22.
(Alright, time to head back to town.)
Having performed his daily good deeds as the Tutorial Guy, Isamu walks toward the teleportation magic circle.
It’s already 11:30 PM.
Normally, he would log off around this time to prepare for his part-time job, but luckily, tomorrow is his day off.
Despite some drowsiness and fatigue, there is something he must do before the day ends.
He needs to check the combat arts for each skill that he hasn’t seen before.
During the beta test, Isamu tried out various things and knows roughly the first two combat arts for each skill.
However, he lacks knowledge about the third and subsequent arts.
This could hinder his ability to explain them during the inaugural event.
Therefore, he plans to reset his skill points allocation at his current level and test out the third and subsequent arts himself.
Checking all the skills will be quite labor-intensive, but Isamu doesn’t want to embarrass himself. Having been entrusted with an important role, he wants to live up to expectations.
「Alright!」
With that thought in mind, Isamu gets pumped up and runs back to the plaza in Starting Town.
☆
Isamu enters a small hut next to the armor shop with a signboard that reads 「SP.」
As he approaches an NPC with the appearance of a friendly young man, the NPC speaks to him.
『You want to reset your skill points? It costs 100 Gald, is that okay?』
<Do you want to reset your skill points?>
Without hesitation, Isamu selects the 「Yes」 button on the displayed system message.
Immediately, his equipment is automatically unequipped, and the sword at his waist vanishes.
(Let’s see… I’ll start by checking out daggers.)
From the Skill Point Allocation menu, Isamu allocates all his available points into daggers.
<You can now equip daggers.>
<You have learned the dagger combat art 【Cross Moment】.>
<Dagger damage increased by 5%.>
<You have learned the dagger combat art 【Poisonic Dagger】.>
<Dagger damage increased by 5%.>
<You have learned the dagger combat art 【Assassin Attack】.>
Several system messages appear as a result.
(As I thought, it’s up to three. Just like what was written on that site.)
According to information from a strategy site, learning the fourth combat art requires roughly level 30 with a full allocation of points.
Isamu wasn’t doubting it, but it seems to be true after all.
Ideally, he wanted to check the fourth and fifth arts as well, but it can’t be helped.
While thinking this, Isamu navigates to the Item List page in the menu window.
(Now, where are the daggers… Ah! Here they are.)
Finding the desired [Iron Dagger] while scrolling with his finger, Isamu taps the equip button.
Two iron daggers appear before him.
Gripping them in both hands, Isamu leaves the shop and heads back to Rookie Forest.
☆
(Alright. Let’s review and test the arts starting from the first one.)
「Cross Moment!」
As he voices the art name, Isamu swings the daggers down in a crossing motion and immediately swings them back up along the same trajectory.
(Yeah. This is the basic one. Next is… This art is meaningless unless it hits a monster.)
Isamu walks through the forest a bit to search for monsters.
After a short while, a Giant Rat appears before him, a creature he’s encountered so often that he’s starting to feel attached to it.
「Poisonic Dagger!」
Upon activating the art, the blades of the daggers turn green.
At the same time, his arms extend straight out, and the two daggers strike the rat.
「…Ah.」
The rat vanishes.
Poisonic Dagger has a low probability of inflicting the poison status on enemies for a short time.
Isamu wanted to confirm its effect, but perhaps due to his high level, he defeated the rat normally.
(Well, whatever. The next one is a new art, what was it called…)
Isamu opens the menu window and checks the details of the third combat art from the Skill Point Allocation page.
(Let’s see, it’s Assassin Attack. The effect is a low probability of instant death… Depending on the odds, this could be broken. Alright!)
「Assassin Attack!」
As he calls out the art name, the dagger blades turn black, and his arms simultaneously extend straight out.
The motion is exactly the same as Poisonic Dagger.
「Hm?」
However, there is one difference.
Isamu feels that it takes longer for his body to regain freedom of movement.
With Poisonic Dagger, the automatic control over his body is released as soon as he extends his arms, but with Assassin Attack, it feels like he’s frozen for a brief moment.
「Assassin Attack!」
Thinking it might be his imagination, Isamu tries again and indeed remains frozen with his arms extended.
(I see… There’s a stun duration. It’s not very useful like this.)
If the attack misses or fails to trigger the instant death effect, even a momentary opening leaves him unguarded.
While the instant death effect is powerful, it’s too much of a gamble.
Therefore, Isamu judges it as mediocre.
(Alright. Daggers are done. Next is—)
☆
Isamu returns to Starting Town once more and resets his skill points.
This time, he allocates all points into Water Magic and comes to Rookie Forest again.
「Burst, water bubble! Popping Bubble!」
Immediately casting the spell, a giant water bubble with a diameter of about one meter appears.
It floats around for a few seconds before bursting with a loud pop.
(Yeah. As always, I have no idea how this deals damage. Now, for the next one, I need a monster… Oh!)
As if on cue, a Giant Grasshopper emerges from the shadow of a tree.
Isamu extends his hand toward the grasshopper and chants the incantation.
「Raging waters! Rain azure upon my foes! Azure Geyser!」
As soon as he finishes saying the art name, magic circles expand beneath the grasshopper’s feet and in the air above it.
Water gushes out from the magic circle at its feet like a geyser, launching the grasshopper into the air.
Immediately after, water is forcefully shot at the grasshopper from the magic circle above.
Slammed into the ground by the water pressure, the grasshopper disintegrates and vanishes.
(This might be tough for people with a fear of heights…)
While harboring such thoughts, Isamu checks the details and incantation of the third art he hasn’t seen before.
He decides to try it out right away.
「Come forth, incarnation of the azure water dragon! Devour the enemies that stand before me!」
As he recites the incantation, a huge magic circle expands from the tip of his hand.
「Aqua Dragon!」
The moment he utters the art name, a stream of water in the shape of a dragon is released from the magic circle.
「Whoa!」
Since he didn’t use it against a monster, Isamu doesn’t know how powerful it is, but it looks strong.
However—
(Yikes! …It drains a lot of MP!)
The consumed MP is 30.
With Isamu’s maximum MP being 105 with bonuses, he can only chant it three times.
(I can’t spam it, huh? It might be alright for boss battles, but it seems mediocre for battle royales.)
「Alright! Water Magic is done, next is—」
Afterward, Isamu goes back and forth between the forest and town several times, spending hours testing the combat arts of all skills, just like he did in the beta version.
