Chapter 13
【Otto’s POV】
「So, Otto. Is there anything you’re good at?」
「Things I’m good at… Well, I’m good with the bow!」
「I see. That works out perfectly then.」
Master Eld says. He then orders me to go to the Adventurers Guild in town and take on some quests.
「Adventurer… Is that going to be my job…?」
「That’s right. Just accept some appropriate quests and come back.」
「Y-Yes sir…」
I had assumed that as a slave I would be forced to do really tough jobs and endure horrible treatment.
But Master Eld has not only healed my arm, he now wants me to become an adventurer.
To be an adventurer… It’s something I’ve secretly aspired to.
Back in the village, all I could do was hunt beasts or weak slimes around the outskirts. But I’ve always wanted to battle powerful monsters.
I wanted to test the limits of my skill with the bow.
「80% of the quest reward is fine for me. Use the remaining 20% however you want.」
「Ehh…!? Is that alright?!」
「That’s how I run things here.」
「Thank you so much!」
For a slave to receive treatment this good, it’s unheard of anywhere else.
「I also have another slave named Domingo. I’m thinking of having you two pair up and take on quests together. Do you have any objections?」
「Not at all.」
「Domingo is a close-range fighter. Support him with your bow.」
「Yes sir…!」
And so, I set out to meet up with Domingo before heading into town together.
「Nice to meet you Mr Domingo, please take care of me.」
「Yeah, nice to meet ya. You sure got lucky ending up with Master Eld huh.」
「Huh…?」
「Getting picked up by his lordship and all.」
「Ah yes. He really is a wonderful master.」
Praising Master Eld, Domingo and I make our way towards town.
Once we arrive, Domingo teaches me all about registering as an adventurer and accepting quests.
Having barely left my village before, this bustling town is an exotic new world to me.
To think my life would take such an unexpected turn after becoming a slave.
「Alright, let’s go do some quests!」
「Yes sir!」
Domingo and I set out together on some quests.
To be honest, the quests are an absolute blast.
I get to freely shoot my bow to my heart’s content battling monsters.
The long dormant potential of my archery skills is finally unleashed.
「Otto, you’re pretty damn good. One hell of an archer.」
「Thank you so much!」
Praises Domingo.
After completing our quests, Domingo takes me out drinking.
「Is this really okay? For us slaves to be out freely eating and drinking… Shouldn’t we hurry back…」
「Nah, Master Eld is very generous. Our only job is doing quests. Once we finish those we’ve got free time. As long as we bring in money, his Lordship lets us do as we please. He’s the best kinda master right?」
「Yes…! You’re absolutely right…!」
The food tastes incredibly delicious after working up a sweat during quests.
To think this is the life of a slave.
It’s strange but I feel more spirited and excited than before I became a slave.
And Master Eld’s generous treatment did not end there.
After I had been working adventurer jobs for several weeks, I suddenly get summoned by his lordship again.
Thinking I’m finally about to receive cruel slave-like punishment…
「Otto, I hear you’ve been working hard and that you have incredible skill with the bow. Domingo has told me all about it.」
「Y-Yes… Thanks to you, m’lord…」
「This is but a small token, but please make use of it.」
「Huh…?」
He hands me a brand new bow.
「Th-this is…?」
「It’s a new bow. It should perform considerably better than what you have now.」
「Is it really okay…!? Isn’t it expensive…?」
「Consider it an investment. With this, you should be able to take on more difficult quests no?」
「T-Thank you so much…!」
I gladly accept the gift.
Honestly, the feel of that bow is phenomenal.
Now I can hunt monsters even faster.
Thanks to it, I’ve been able to take on higher difficulty quests and double my income.
Maybe I can live up to Master Eld’s expectations just a little.
I plan to keep on doing my best at this wonderful life.
